light pollution

Light pollution

I was out photographing the stars around 2:30 Sunday morning, As I was returning home I noticed the shear amount of light pollution form one light sources up on the crest of the hill in the distance so I stopped to photograph the effect.

behind it and to the left you can see light pollution from Bathurst.

I found it interesting to see some of the impact we have had on the night sky.

Early morning light

Early morning light
The best end to a  night out at Hill end trying to do some astronomy photography, accidentally dropping my car keys beside my car and thinking I had locked myself out (you know how at times you do not think clearly when you panic), before coming back to Bathurst through Eglington when I saw the effect of the streetlights on the fog and loving the colour and lighting effect.

Nothing like despite the disappointment from the previous night coming home to the interesting light effects in the fog, getting home and thankfully I had nothing on that day, so I was able to rest then later edit the photos I had taken that night.

it was amazing to see the number of cars out on the road, this coming from growing up on a farm used to sparse traffic on the road at most hours.

Looking forward to trying to spot the Quadrantids Meteor Shower

On the 3rd or 4th of January 2016, I will be trying to observe the Quadrantids Meteor Shower from my parents back paddock on both nights. I decided to mow around the back paddock so i will not be in patches of thistles this time (real fun).

Though i might not be able to see the Quadrantids Meteor Shower over Bathurst, As it is better observed in the Northern hemisphere, but i will still try anyway because i can not expect to get any meteor photos if I don't put any effort.

I did have fun taking photos of the Geminids meteor shower on the 13th-14th of December, so I think I have a bit of a idea what settings to use, though there are always room to experiment with the settings.

More information can be found here and here.

(note I am an Amateur astronomy photographer and i don't have much experience in Astronomy photography, I would go to other photographers first for advice on taking Astronomy photography.)

Anyway i will have fun photographing the stars on the 3rd and 4th of January 2015 and if i get any meteors that will make it all the more better.

New years eve Fireworks

Finally getting around to posting some of the photos I took at the new years eve celebrations in Bathurst. Bathurst puts on a Firework display on new years eve at Victoria park. The Bathurst city council gets local bands in to play at the event, this year we had quite a few bands in, and as according to my friends, they did the yearly tradition of being pretty awful and this year was no exception( note last years bands were pretty good)

I got only a few good shots but most of them were pretty ordinary and I was not able to anticipate when the best fire works were going off as for me it was a real hit and miss on this occasion.

It was a great night to be out with friends to see the fireworks and hear the awful singing of the local bands. If you are in Bathurst on new years eve it is always worth while to see the local fireworks.
